Home!

I’ve left everybody hanging for a week, but we did make it home! We drove two long, uneventful days across flat and boring eastern Colorado and Kansas, back through St. Louis, and finally back to Indiana. It was a great trip! More than 7,900 miles and a month on the road, and you really start to get used to it after awhile. We could have gone on even longer!

Our country has such a variety of landscapes and scenery, and I am so glad we got to see so much of it on the trip. We bonded as a family, and it is so amazing that my children (and I) got to experience this with their grandma. Talk about life-long memories!

My favorite part of the trip was driving along the California coast, Lexi’s favorites were Alcatraz, Hollywood, and Disneyland, Torsten’s favorites were all of the different types of vehicles we rode, and grandma’s favorite part was the variety of natural scenery.

Some of our catchphrases from the trip were:

“Texas–Do we have it?” (on the license plate game)

“Taco John’s doesn’t exist!” (Torsten was adamant about that)

“Look! A Subway!” (Lexi always wanted to eat there, but the rest of us didn’t)

“Is that grandma or a horse?” (Torsten asked this one completely seriously the first time)

  1. So glad the trip was a success!! Tell Torsten Auntie Em wins about Taco John’s, and we’re eating there together the next time he comes to Iowa.

I also think ‘Debra’ and ‘Jeopardy’ need to be added to the list.

  2. Looks like it was an amazing trip and the kids are old enough to remember at least some of it. As for you and grandma the memories made traveling the country with the kids is something neither of you will forget ever.

  3. Gary mentioned your blog in his post, so I thought I’d drop by and say hello. “Is that grandma or a horse?” is a classic line. It’s something that should really be in a movie. 🙂
